“My sketchbook is a witness of what I am experiencing, scribbling things whenever they happen.” -Vincent Van Gogh
My first post! It's been a struggle for me to define what this blog was going to be about, but then when I was looking through an old sketchbook of mine the other day, it came to me!
Like most designers, I have always kept a sketchbook, but I realized that it has been quite a while since I have completely filled one. In college, my design studio professors would emphasize the importance of keeping a sketchbook to write down thoughts, sketch ideas, or collect inspiring designs because you never knew what could develop from them. My sketchbooks were typically filled with random hand sketches (to practice my drawing skills), “to-do” lists, pottery ideas, travel itineraries, cooking recipes, and a variety of magazine or newspaper clippings. Now, a lot of what I read and research on design is done online.

So, while this blog is obviously on the computer, I hope that it encourages me (and anyone who happens to read this) to do some more hand sketching, write a little better, think a little more, and get out and away from the computer every once in a while to experience life and be inspired to create.
