Check out the new 'Architect Barbie' that is being released later this summer. Isn't she lovely? Just so you know, this is what I look like when I go to work. I look amazing in pink.
It's great that Mattel decided to send Barbie back to school to become an architect. My Barbie role model was in the band 'Barbie and the Rockers' (the red-head in the spandex). I almost opted out of design school to join a band and work on my dance moves. I'm glad Mattel didn't have as much of an impact on my decisions after the age of 5...or maybe 10. That could have been a disaster.
There was a group of female architects discussing the new barbie and most are whining about what she's wearing and how she's accessorized. There is a lot of pink, but she's Barbie. She's always got a lot of pink. Do you know what I wore to work today? A skirt and heels (ok, maybe not the heels b/c I have no balance and can't walk in them, but I did wear sandals). My point is, I did not wear steel-toed boots and a pants suit and/or black turtleneck. Architect Barbie doesn't need to dress like a douchey male architect just because they dominate the profession.
Here's the conversation I had with a person (who wishes to remain anonymous) when I showed him a picture of the new architect Barbie:
me: "oh look, they're making an architect Barbie"
anonymous: "you should all be so lucky as to look like Barbie, you'd all get more jobs"
I had no argument to this. It's probably true. I mean, that's how I got my last job.
