i run so i can drink beer

Why do people run? Most 'normal' people hate running, but I love it for many reasons:

  1. I can eat whatever I want after I run b/c damn it I just burned like, a million calories. Therefore, the more I run the more pizza and beer I can consume. That's easy math.
  2. I get to buy cute running clothes that automatically transform me into an athlete. I can't really see what I look like from behind, but if I could I am SURE I look ten times better in the dry-fit, space-age technology, wicking material that running pants are made of.
  3. it's about the only time when I can completely space out and nobody will ask me what I'm thinking about causing me to come up with either a whitty retort or amaze them with another inspiring genius idea.
  4. it's an excellent excuse to get new songs for my iPod...as if I need a reason.
  5. to explore the neighborhood. Although, lesson learned...do not venture over to Humbolt Park no matter what time of day it is (unless you are WAY more gangsta than I am).
  6. I have no hand-eye coordination so running is the only chance I have to be better than the average person at sports. To be honest, it's actually pretty amazing that I don't trip more often when I run.  I can pat myself on the back for that one.
  7. I can eat whatever I want when I run...thought that deserved another mention since really, that is the #1 reason...see my awesomely amazing abs above? yeah, no photoshopping done there.
The unfortunate thing is that I have been slacking off for a while with the running causing me to have a slight problem lately with my pants and buttoning them. Apparently eating whatever I want and NOT running only makes me gain weight. So, in order to eat more pizza and drink more beer, I need to get motivated to run. In order to stay motivated for more than a week, I decided to sign up for a half marathon...nope, not a full, but a half which is still 13.1 miles! Don't judge me.

I did some research on half marathon races in Chicago. The Rock n' Roll half marathon was my first choice until I looked at the expense and the fact that it's in August...really, August? No thanks, heat stroke. Then there was the Chicago half marathon in September. The problem with this one is that it's on the south side of the city which isn't convenient for me to get to and the course didn't look all that appealing. If I'm running for 13.1 miles, I need to see some cool shit along the way. So I've opted to sign up for the Monster Dash half marathon in October - Halloween weekend. Now I'll have plenty of time to train, might wear a costume (but probably not b/c I have trouble with tripping in regular clothes), people watching along the course is bound to be a distraction, and I won't die of heat stroke at the end of October.

I'm excited to start my running routine again. Most training programs are 12-weeks, but I'll start getting on a regular routine way before...like now.

maybe ill start running one day. of course, I'd have to start out by running one (half) block at a time, so the real issue is getting over that embarrassment. i'll just make sure there's someone weirder than me on the same street, which won't be hard.

also, a halloween 1/2 sounds way cool!
