Did you know this little oasis existed in the middle of Lincoln Park? I stumbled upon a story about the rehabilitation of the lily pond a few years ago and made a vow to check it out. While I have passed by the pond countless times, for whatever reason, I hadn't meandered through. So, the lily pond was added to 'the Chicago list'.
It was sunny for a few hours last Sunday so I decided to go for a bike ride. I ventured up north toward the lakefront on a mission to loop around and stop off at my favorite frozen custard shop. However, as I passed by the zoo on the lakefront, I remembered that the ever elusive lily pond was somewhere nearby. So I swung back around, parked my bike, and finally found this little oasis. Pockets of benches, a prarie-style pavilion, wildflowers, a waterfall cutting through stone, and turtles(!) aligned the stone path as it wound around the lily pond. It was beautiful until the rain clouds reappeared. I had to hurry to get back home before the sky opened up and soaked me and my bike. I did not make it home rain free, but I still felt like I'd won. I had discovered a new (to me) amazing spot in Chicago.
